The Opals are the first Senior Australian Basketball team to be the world champions – and I cant see the men getting any time soon, so we need to celebrate.

The Opals were lead by Championship MVP Penny Taylor who overshadowed Australia’s “Superstar” Lauren Jackson – Penny has never been recognised by most, she has played very little in Australia and has had a few injuries but has played well in the WNBA and other overseas leagues for a number of years and is still only 25.

I am sure Aussie fans will get to see more of this winning team, despite a number of the players possibly not being around come the 2008 Olympics we are sure to get some play out of many of them, and with South Aussie’s Erin Philips and Laura Summerton coming onto the International scene hopefully the success can continue to flow well into the future.
