Finally Ford wins, but sadly Mark Porter passes away

Ford has finally won at Bathurst, with there last win in 1998. Sadly though Mark Porter did pass away following a horrific side on crash on Friday during the first race of the Development series for the weekend. A weekend already overshadowed by the death of Peter Brock, affectionately known as King of the Mountain, 4 weeks prior the death of Porter also overshadows the Ford win of Lowndes and Whincup. Lowndes as a young racer was a protege of Brock’s and it was a very emotional day for Lowndes obviously, he was involved in the pre-race lap driving one of Brock’s winning cars and struggled to hold back tears during the tribute on pitlane. Of course Lowndes was also very emotional after the race and couldnt hold back the tears whilst on the podium, I am sure he was happy to win the race, but would have prefered it under better circumstances. Hopefully Lowndes is able to continue on and win the championship for the fourth time in a row for Ford.

I dont know why, but it just doesn’t feel right to be celebrating the Ford victory, I have never met Porter but for some reason I feel a great loss, I actually feel a greater loss for Mark Porter than I do for Brock – perhaps it was Brock’s off track performance with women that has affected my thoughts for him.
I find it rather ironic how parallel Brock and Lowndes careers have been after both being in the Holden Factory team and being screwed over by the factory, I just hope that Lowndes never makes up with Holden and he continues to race for Ford and wins many more races for the Blue Oval.

RIP Mark Porter

I have booked my accomodation for Phillip Island and look forward to attending the Grand Finale once again – for another Ford victory – come on Lowndesy do it for Ford.
