Our First Fire

Well it wasn’t really the first fire, but I wasn’t home for the last one – it is strange because it is the coldest day for quite a while as well. We have had a bit of a hit wave with temperatures almost reach 40&deg late this week. We were out the back of our house playing with Abby with the rest of the family when we heard sirens – they were different to the normal sirens we hear, so Dad went out the front to have a look and sure enough there was a fire across the road. We live opposite a conservation park – in front of us is more of a paddock than a conservation park but any way. The fire was further up the hill and and was only small, we could see flames but it wasn’t worth going back in side to get the camera out. The MFS were the only ones to rock up and they had it out pretty quick so it was too exciting. We used to have a lot more fires, particularly in the Cobbler Creek Valley all the way up to Golden Grove, but due to the fact that most of the area that used to burn is housing it doesn’t happen very often anymore. Although considering the lack of rain this year there is a lot of under growth and it is very dry and given the right conditions it will burn through very quickly.
