NBL Season almost upon us

Well the basketball season starts in 2 weeks today, and hopefully it is shaping up to be a great season. Of course the 36ers have only played one game that I know of and they lost to Melbourne but that was without skipper Brett Maher and an import Mike Chappelle so I think we are for a pretty good season. Sadly my predictions last year of the Distinctive Groves Dome (now affectionally known as DHD or the Dome) becoming an unhappy hunting ground only became true for the spectators. With the worst year I can remember – ok The Claxton Years were pretty bad – not making the finals, it was rather disappointing.

Things were looking up with the prodigal son – Brad Newley – signing to play, however he got drafted and is off to Europe to hopefully crack the NBA next season. So things are still looking up, but not quite as far up, hopefully the 36ers can sign Neil Mottram and he can bolster the team up, and we can make a return to the finals.

One definite change is to the Dome itself, it has finally been repainted (cue the Hallelujah Chorus) and a number of other upgrades have been made or are being made, including the floor being totally resurfaced, the scoreboard and pa system is going to be replaced mid season and supposedly a stack of plasma screens have been installed – not sure what for but I guess we will find out soon.

This weekend we will see our first pre-season games locally, we have 3 days of games:
Friday September 7th
5.30pm Adelaide Lightning v Japan Energy
7.30pm Adelaide 36ers v Cairns Taipans

Saturday September 8th
3.00pm Adelaide Lightning v Japan Energy
5.00pm Brisbane Bullets v Cairns Taipans

Sunday September 9th
12.00pm Distinctive Homes Dome Open Day
4.00pm Adelaide 36ers v Brisbane Bullets
$5 entry each day and free access to the house rats carparking

I think I will head in to watch the girls play Saturday and the guys play Sunday – might go Friday night, depends how I feel late Friday afternoon at work. I think my sister is going to take my two neices, mum recently bought them a couple of small 36ers singlets from Harbour Town – so she has to take them some time this year. I’ll post pictures of the cuties in their singlets.

  1. Hi there,

I am looking for a 36ers singlet for my 2-year old son. They will be on sale soon at the stadium, but until then I thought you may be able to tell me which store at Harbourtown carries them. I went to a couple stores there 2 weeks ago, and didn’t see any. My son tries to put on my husband’s jersey and really wants to wear it outside (LOL).

    Thanks!

  2. Ok, this probably isnt going to be much help, but it was on the same side as Rays Outdoors and it wasn’t really just a sports store, it had a lot of Holden and Ford stuff in there as well. As I said it was mum that bought them so she isnt quite sure, she does know that there is a little ABC kids car out the front of the store.

Sorry cant be of much help :(

Just so you know they are actually last years singlets, but they say sixers on them at least. Pretty sure we are going to the dome today.
