36ers First Home Game

Well I have just gotten home from a full on day the day after the first home game of the 07/08 Season and I am a little disappointed with the game actually…

What was disappointing about it you ask, a number of things actually. I’ll summarise a few things, because there was some good things too

The Good

  • Half time entertainment – they had a group doing some jumps over 2 ramps on bmx & skate boards – 2 of the bmx guys did back flips – 1 of the came off and almost hurt himself. I thought it was great.
  • Live video feeds – they had a 3 camera live video feed to the projector screen and also I noticed it in the corporate suites also
  • The scoreboard – the old girl still has some life in her
  • Video used to advertise sponsors – video screen was used to promote a couple of sponsors I can see this being a valuable tool if required in the future to lure more sponsorship dollars
  • Bonz – I really think Bonz does an excellent as an MC on the court
  • Dancers – it seems that the team is mostly the same as last year and they seemed to do a pretty good job
  • The Bad (not necessarily bad, but definitely needs work)

  • Brightness of the video – the video screen didn’t seem particularly bright from where I was sitting
  • Camera angles – I thought some of the angles were a little odd – but first week I am sure they will learn from it
  • The Ugly

  • Pregame – what has happened, no lights out, it was a little corny but I actually used to enjoy that
  • Neil the Court Announcer – too many senior’s moments, you have been good Neil you have 3 NBL Championships under you belt so you trump John Lawrence
  • The Music – that should read the silence – note to Music Man – I don’t want to hear that pin drop played again, I would say worst job ever
  • Lack of crowd interaction – I didn’t think I would ever say it but bring back the Navy Seals – at least they got the crowd going a few times. We really need a cheer squad that will lead cheers and get the crowd into it.
  • Ok so we won, not exactly convincingly but we did win nonetheless.
Adam Balinger & Axel Dench look great together
David Cooper looked a little out but may take a couple of games to sort himself out
Motts looked a bit lost but had limited minutes will be better for the run
Chappell started slow but showed a little promise – lacks match conditioning but should improve
Ninja looked out of sorts & out of position
Davo is an absolute star, scrappy bump & grinder – my fave already
Sutts needs to step up if he wants to keep getting minutes
Copes was hot & cold – could become a defensive liability
Last & most importantly Mahersy – well he was the Brett Maher that continues to be the glue that holds the team together, hopefully we can rely on him less he aint getting any younger.

There was definitely some good signs, lets see how we go against Tigers next Friday night, with hopefully a full team on the pine for the whole week -also lets hope the crowd improves too.
